How we work

The ADO was incorporated in 1998, and is coordinated with the assistance of a large team of doctors on national and local committees all devoting their time and energy voluntarily. We now have over 600 doctors and medical students on our data base. There is no cost to register as a member of ADO. All contact is by EMail. The orchestra donates its services to a different medical charity each year. Players pay a subscription fee, and meet all of their own costs, including travel and accommodation.  A local organizing committee in the host city works closely with the charity to add corporate sponsorship to these funds wherever possible. This all means that the majority of door takings are passed on to the nominated charity.

Invitations are sent to all members on our database, with well over 100 participating each year.

We are sent the music scores a couple of months prior to the concert. Recordings by other performers help us to familiarize ourselves with the music, and practice in our own time. We meet at the venue for rehearsals all day Friday and Saturday, as well as on Sunday morning, and finally we perform at our concert on Sunday afternoon.
